The Fayetteville Purple Dogs and Bryant Hornets are meeting for the second time in less than a year this Friday night. Fayetteville and Bryant each had strong defensive performances and the game on Friday night should be a hard hitting battle. Each comes into the contest Friday with impressive victories to get off the season.

The defending 7-A state champions had a difficult matchup against the number one team in Missouri, Blue Springs Hill School. Fayetteville had a tough time finding consistency on the offensive side of the ball against Blue Springs. Fayetteville fumbled and had two punts early in the first half that allowed Blue Springs to grab a 7-0 lead. Fayetteville would respond when Taylor Powell connected with Terrance Rock to tie the game up at 7. Fayetteville would grab the lead before the half at 19-7 and never look back.

The Bryant Hornets game against Benton is always one of the most interesting games in the state. The Salt Bowl is always a hard hitting affair and the game last Friday night did nothing to dispel that notion. Bryant played a defensive battle with a scrappy Panthers’ team that is expected to challenge for a playoff spot this season. Corner back Cameron Vail was able to pick off a pass and help set the Hornets up in good field position to break a 7-7 tie. The Hornets’ defense was able to make some key stops to preserve the win. Hornets’ defensive back was able to make a key tackle to keep Benton out of the end zone, tackling Preston Stone at around the 10 yard line.

The Bryant offense was led by senior running back De’Amonte Terry. Terry punched the ball in the end zone once and tacked on 71 yards on the ground. The Fayetteville defense will have to find a way to slow down Terry and force Bryant to go to the air more than what they will like. The Bryant defense will have to watch out for the big play. Fayetteville has explosive players all over the field and can strike quickly. Both defenses will have plenty of work thrown on to their plates this Friday night. The team that can force the stops and come up with some turnovers will likely win this game.
